ReplyDeletecan someone explain this, 3x!
ReplyDeleteproc print only shows data portion of dataset and proc contents shows descriptor portion of a dataset.
ReplyDeletenice explanation
ReplyDeleteans is A !!
ReplyDeletethere are two portion of a data set- descriptor and data portion.
the descriptor portion gives an insight into the data set and its variable attributes. whereas the data portion displays the data in listed column.
the descriptor portion of the data set can be viewed through 'proc content' and the data portion can be displayed through 'proc print'.
variable names are of descriptor portion and values are data portion. so ans is C
ReplyDeletehi i yhink it.s obvious, where proc print get header of fields ? where labels and formats ? obviously from the descriptor portion. AND where proc print get data ? so.... C is right

ReplyDeleteIf the answer is A, then that means that the data portion must also contain the row and column names...and further those row and column names are not part of the descriptor portion. Strange.
ReplyDeleteNo, that is data portion
Deletedescriptive portion is just meta data
its confusing. I chose C, because variable names are considered part of the descriptor portion. Ans proc print shows both variable name and data i.e. it should be working on both parts. Right?

ReplyDeleteThe descriptor portion of a SAS data set contains the vital statistics of the data set, such as the name of the data set, the date and time that the data set was created, the number of observations and the number of variables.
Vital information is the right phrase.... I agree with you on that.
Deletebut variables are part of descriptor portion
